New yards are a big spend, and it's a rough one to get wrong. That's why, if you're planning ahead for your next setup, one of the smartest things you can do is walk through the yards in person before you decide.

And that's what makes the A&P Show worth the trip. You get to compare different systems side by side and feel how they work in practice. Inspect the steel and welds up close, open and test the gates yourself, and see how the working areas flow when they're laid out properly.

Is the Commercial 223 Head Yard right for you?

The 223-head yard is another one of our popular Commercial options. It’s a yard designed for serious operators who are handling cattle in larger numbers.

You’ve got four working pens, varying in capacity (holding pen capacities outlined in the image carousel above).

We’ve gone for a 7-section race in this design, so that measures around 14.7m – suitable for holding up to 9–12 adult cattle, and more calves.

For a yard of this size, we suggest incorporating an additional Sliding Gate in the middle of the race for keeping cattle up the front of your drenching race if you’re working on your own.

You’ve got three genuine drafting options, two internal to the yard and one external. For drafting cattle up the ramp, we’ve got the mid-race drafting gate, which can easily be operated from the catwalk via a slam latch situated at the top of the gate for efficient access.

As you’ll see in the renders, we’ve incorporated plenty of man gate entry/exit points throughout this yard to ensure safe operation and ease of movement throughout the yard.

As with all of our Commercial designs, this yard package comes with all Overhead Bracing, Catwalk Brackets, Catwalk Steps, and External Support Bracing.

Hiab delivery on farm is included in the listed pricing. However, installation is not included. That said, over the years of building yards, we've developed a network of experienced yard builders that double as fencers. If you'd like your yard built by one of the team, please let us know, and we'll put you in touch with your local yard builder.

Yard Specs

With the Commercial range, we maximize

On the farm, your yards need to work as hard as you do. That means a setup that can shift and grow with your stock numbers, without locking you into one size.

Panel Lengths

We use a range of panel lengths to create a shape of yards from 0.8m to 2.1m

Panel (Post Specs)

Panel Posts are 50x50x2.5mm

HDG After Welding

Every Yard is full hot dipped galvanized after welding

Rattle Free Hold

All connections between panels and gates use a ‘Clamp on Pin’. The clamp ‘squeezes’ panel/gate posts, and the pin sits snug in the lug to ensure a ‘rattle free’ hold

Gate Lengths

We have a wide range of gate lengths including Man Gates at 0.8m and Entry Gates at 3m.

Slam Latches

All gates use slam latches.

Panel Heights

Maxxus Yard Panels are 1.8m tall with 7 rails

Gate Heights

Commercial Gates are 2.2m tall with 7 rails

Gate (Post Specs)

Gate posts are 50x50x3mm

Gate (Rail Specs)

Gate rails are 66x47x2mm

Panel (Rail Specs)

Panel rails are 66x47x2mm

Sheep Friendly

The bottom three spacings on our new range is 120mm, 150mm, 180mm.

Ground Bracing

All yards are braced in the ground via 500m ribbed Ground Spikes (non-concrete) or Concrete Screws (on concrete)

Commerical Yard Features

Due diligence is important, but we know you’re a busy person with things to do. Below you’ll find an overview of the core features of the Commercial range. If you’d like to know more, simply click the link below and it will scroll you to the relevant part of this page.

01

Deep Rail Profile

When cattle are putting pressure on yards, it is lateral pressure. For this reason our cattle rail is 47mm deep compared to the more common 40-42mm depth.

02

Hot Dipped Galvanising

Hot Dipped galvanised after welding keeping yards rust free for life.

03

Anti-rattle Connection Clamps

Our rattle free clamp system reduces annoying noise in the yard and ensures a tight hold between panels and gates compared with loose fitting pins and bolts that others use.

More about Anti-rattle Connection Clamps
04

Overhead Bracing

Included in all commercial designs is a full range of overhead braces. We recommend incorporating overhead bracing in yard sections with junctions near 90 degrees, especially if you’re dealing with stroppy stock. They help to lock in the yard's structural integrity.

More Information
05

4 x Anchor Points per Panel

All of our panels use four anchor points to maximise stability and strength when your yard is bolted or spiked down. Having four anchor points distributes weight more evenly when pressure is applied, improving lateral strength.

06

900mm Wide Catwalks

Plenty of width on the catwalk for those big days in the yards! Attach either timber or FRP fiberglass grating.

07

10 Year Warranty on Galvanising

All Hot Dipped Galvanised Steel comes with a 10 year warranty.

08

36 Month Structural Warranty

All steel within a yard package comes with an 36 month structural warranty.

09

7-rail Panels and Gates

Panels and Gates in our new range all have 7-rails for increased strength, tight rail spacing down low and calves and even sheep, and ultimately for an increased visual barrier.

223 Head
Our commitment to durability

Steel Depth = Strength

When cattle are putting pressure on yards, it is ‘lateral pressure’. For this reason our cattle rail is 47mm deep which is 15% stronger than most alternatives.

We go deeper rather than higher as cattle push up against the rails, they don’t walk on top of them from our experience.

Why steel over wood?

Five reasons to go steel over timber

01

Durability & Longevity

Steel lasts significantly longer than timber. They don't rot and warp, meaning they handle the elements and livestock pressure for decades with minimal maintenance.

02

Almost Zero Maintenance

Timber yards require regular upkeep - repairs and replacements. Steel yards, especially hot dipped galvanised ones, require little to no maintenance beyond occasionally greasing your slam latches.

03

Easy Assembly & Portability

Our steel yards are modular and therefore, a lot quicker to set up then timber yards. They're also portable, so can be moved easily to from block to block if necessary.

04

Flexibility of Change

You're not confined by your original decision. You may need to expand your yard, or perhaps you want to move the entry gate to your yards because they're not flowing quite right. Easy with steel! Tough work with timber! Flexibility as your needs change!

05

Resale Value

Because they last longer, require less upkeep and are portable, steel yards hold their value better, making them a solid investment if you ever need to sell or upgrade.

223 Head
Minimal Noise with Onefarm

Steel yards rattle like a bitch? Not when they are Onefarm yards

As the owner of a lifestyle block or smaller yard, investing in yards, whether steel or timber, it’s a sizeable investment, so we recommend doing your due diligence. When it comes to steel yards, yes some brands do rattle. Rattly yards produce unnecessary noise that wind cattle up and make basic cattle handling tasks a nuisance. Not to mention getting your cattle into the yards next time being that much harder! We’ve solved this with quite a simple fix – our Anti-Rattle Connection Clamps.

223 Head
Flush clamp section

Secondly, the ‘clamp’ section fits around the steel posts of each panel or gate, nice and flush. Using a wrench or ideally a rattle gun, these are tightened to ‘pinch’ the steel posts, removing any rattle.

223 Head
Snug lug fitting

Firstly, the steel rod on our clamps sits nice and snug in the lug fitting on each panel. We allow for ~0.5mm of clearance, so when you’re assembling your yard you’ll find that they ‘just’ fit.

It’s a simple and cost effective solution which so many of our clients rate highly.

Even Ben Mcilwrick (more commonly known at Ben The Fencer) who’s built plenty of timber yards in his time was amazed at how effective our anti-rattle clamps are.   He’s recently built a set of our MAXXUS yards for one of his clients in Rangiora, North Canterbury

Maximising Yard Strength

Are they actually solid enough?

If you're only running a handful of tame cattle in a small yard, then the Overhead Bracing isn't a necessity - perhaps save the money. You can buy them later on if need be.

If you're running bigger cattle, and in mobs of 10 plus, the Overhead Braces are good for 'tying' the yard structure together.

We brace any junctions that are close to 90 degrees to effectively ‘lock’ panels and gates in place. Think of it as “united we stand.” When all panels and gates are braced together, they’re much stronger, and therefore far more capable of withstanding stock pressure than without any bracing.

The Overhead Bracing maximizes strength and structural integrity

This allows you you to manage your herd in a solid set of yards that don’t move or rattle unnecessarily. They really are a key cog in the wheel!

A Secure Foundation

How we maximise durability

We know your gear needs to go the distance, which is why every detail is designed to stand up to real-world use.

From the ground up, we use high-grade steel and reinforced components that won’t warp, rust, or wear out under pressure. Our smart engineering is tested against the toughest conditions, with anti-rattle fittings and precision welds built to deliver long-term performance season after season.

And because durability also means less hassle, we’ve kept maintenance to a minimum so you can spend less time on repairs and more time getting the job done.At the end of the day, maximising durability isn’t just about lasting longer.

It’s about giving you confidence every time you put it to work.

Loading Ramps

OUR COMMERCIAL LOADING RAMP

Our Commercial Loading Ramp is built for the serious end of the operation.

At 4m in total length, it features a 3m ramp with a 1m flat platform at the top. That platform earns its keep when unloading - cattle tend to come off the truck at pace, and the extra space lets them find their feet before heading down the ramp rather than piling into each other.

A full-length catwalk runs up the side, keeping the operator alongside cattle the whole way up and making it easy to maintain flow. The gate at the top platform is a simple but smart feature - it lets the truck driver step into the truck to close off pens without climbing over rails, and with the gate shut, cattle flow stops immediately, acting as a safety barrier between the truck driver and the next cattle beast.

The ramp deck is finished in Australian hardwood with steel cleats throughout - solid underfoot for cattle and plenty of grip in all conditions. Available with a left or right-hand catwalk to suit your race layout, and framed with heavy 4-5mm steel for the kind of build that lasts.

Hot-dipped galvanised after welding, with a 10-year galvanising warranty and 3-year structural warranty to back it up.

How a Commercial yard comes together

Select the right Commercial yard design

Consider your mob sizes and how you intend to operate your stockyards. Make sure you consider ‘comfortable working capacity’ rather than purely holding capacity in the yards.

01

Do you need a Crush? Do you need a Ramp?

We have four crush options to consider. 2 x vetless models and 2 x vet models. All built for strength and simplicity of operation. View them here.

02

Left-hand or right-hand operation

Figure out whether it’s left-hand or right-hand operation that will work with your site.

03

Pay your deposit

Pay the 50% deposit and wait 6-8 weeks for your yard to be delivered.

04

Prepare your yard site

We provide you with a site plan tailored to your needs. Some yards sit on a full concrete slab, while others are half on concrete and half on a metal base. For yards with Forcing Circles, we supply the forcing gate post after confirmation, as it needs to be embedded in concrete. Read more here about site preparation and concrete.

05

Lock in yard builder (if you’re not DYI)

For our Commercial yards, we suggest using one of our experienced yard builders construct it for you. Here’s a guide to the costs associated with having your yard professionally installed.

06

Assembly plans provided

We send you a set of assembly plans. These include an AB guide and a colour-coded guide. If you’re having a yard built by one of our experienced yard builders, we send a copy of the plans to them as well.

07

Yards are Hiab delivered

As part of your deal, we deliver your yards directly to the farm using a hiab.

08

Yards are built ready for use

Either you manage the yard's build, or one of our experienced yard builders does.

09

Frequently Asked Questions

This depends on the size of the trucks and trailers accessing your yards, but as a guide, we recommend allowing for a generous turning circle to make loading and unloading safer and more efficient. We can provide guidance on exact measurements tailored to your site layout and vehicle sizes.

A 50% deposit is required upon confirmation of your order, with the remaining 50% due prior to your yards being dispatched.

Entry gates are either 2.6m or 3m wide, depending on the design of your yard. We’ll help you choose the best option for your operation and stock flow.

This comes down to your site and your budget. While not every area needs to be concreted, we strongly recommend concreting the Working Area of your yards, particularly the Force Pen and Race, for safety, hygiene, and longevity. There are a number of different ways to approach this, so we’ll work with you to find the option that best fits your setup and budget.

All our Commercial Yards come with a 10-year warranty on hot-dipped galvanising, a 36-month warranty on structural steel, and a lifetime railbend warranty. If any rails are bent due to sideways movement, please let us know and we'll replace the panel or gate free of charge.

I can’t really fault you.

That Circular Forcing Pen is the business. Everything went smoothly and great communication from you. I can’t really fault you. Well communicated and it’s made life easy really. They’re solid as, and everything went to plan and without a hiccup.

Cameron Clark

We found the whole service very dynamic and cohesive

We had a couple of adjustments we had to make on the fly and you worked with us on that. So we found the whole service very dynamic and cohesive from site design plans to timely communication to the end result. We used both our home yards and the new yards in the same day last week, and the difference was chalk and cheese! That big non-stock working area, that’s a bit of a luxury. Once you’ve had one, you wouldn’t go back!

James Russell

I love it to bits.

Both of us are not young people, so it was very much a safety-first kind of deal. The forcing circle is absolutely fantastic. I love it to bits. The non-stock area makes things so much easier, so much safer, and so much more organised. It’s better for them and better for us. We ended up with more animals in the yard than expected but it coped well with the additional capacity. The yard is working well and we can work them safely.

Tracey Krahnen

Just excellent service

Just excellent service by the whole Onefarm team, the quality of the yards is awesome, and the ramp is amazing.
